Speaking to Hawzah News Agency, Dr. Hamidreza Yazdani pointed to the martyred Imam Khamenei's particular emphasis and call for the realization of a software movement in the country, stating that the martyred leader's view on science and technology was not confined to a merely technical discussion. Rather, from his perspective, scientific and technological advancement constitutes the backbone of national power and is among the principal components on the path to achieving independence.
"Fundamentally, one of the most significant features of his leadership era was the comprehensive effort to transform knowledge into authority, which we observe within the broader framework of scientific production and the software movement," he added.
The University of Tehran faculty member stated: "During this period, a particular focus was placed on shifting Iran's position from a consumer of knowledge to a producer of knowledge. This drive began with investment in sciences considered to be on the 'cutting edge of technology,' such as nanotechnology, nuclear energy, and stem cell sciences. The primary objective was to ensure that Islamic Iran would not require the permission or assistance of foreign powers for its advancement."
Yazdani further highlighted the martyred Imam and Leader's special emphasis on the role and status of scientific elites in the country, noting: "His dedicated attention to meetings with the academic community and scientific elites placed science at the top of the agenda for the country's executive officials. While criticisms were raised from time to time, the role of the Leader of the Revolution's support for elites in paving this path cannot be overlooked."
He added: "Moreover, the martyred Leader of the Revolution's intensified emphasis over the past decade on realizing the requirements of a knowledge-based economy represented an effort to transition from a 'resource-based' economy—namely oil—to a 'knowledge-based' economy. In this context, the ratification of the law supporting knowledge-based companies proved highly effective, as sustained support for its swift and optimal implementation has led to the formation of over 9,000 knowledge-based companies across our beloved country."
Yazdani continued: "By creating a knowledge-based ecosystem, the Leader of the Revolution redefined the concept of economic security, in that security does not lie merely in stockpiling and warehousing goods, but is embedded in elevating the level of domestic production capacity."
Pointing to the enhancement of the country's military power over recent decades in light of attention to specialized knowledge in this domain, he stated: "In this context, through the development of missile and drone capabilities and support for aligned groups in the region, a form of deterrence was established that has significantly raised the cost of any military aggression against Iran for its enemies. This, in turn, has contributed to internal security stability, the effects of which we have partially witnessed during the twelve-day imposed war and particularly in the Ramadan War."
The University of Tehran academic underscored the effort to achieve economic independence based on the component of resilience, stating: "The martyred Leader of the Revolution's emphasis on the concept of the 'Resistance Economy' means, in simple terms, building an economy that does not collapse under sanctions and external pressures. This has been pursued through support for domestic production, the expansion of knowledge-based companies, and efforts to replace absolute dependence on oil revenues with non-oil exports."
He further noted: "Another crucial matter pertains to the revival of national-Islamic identity, a point upon which our martyred Imam and Leader placed great and persistent emphasis. From a cultural standpoint, the principal focus has been on resisting the Western lifestyle and returning to indigenous and religious values. This characteristic has been defined with the aim of building a society that possesses national self-confidence and derives its model of progress not from the West, but from its own historical and religious roots."
"A key point here is that the guiding style, words, and directives of our martyred Imam have laid the groundwork for the revival of national self-confidence—a reality acknowledged by friend and foe alike. The various dimensions of this achievement warrant thorough expert analysis and examination," he added.
Yazdani concluded: "In summary, if we were to encapsulate this era in a single phrase, its defining characteristic is 'building an independent power in a multipolar world.' This model of governance has sought to demonstrate that a country can attain advanced technologies and preserve its security without integrating into a Western-dominated global order. What matters is that this path continues to be vigorously pursued by the youth, scientists, academics, and officials so that we may achieve all the predetermined objectives set forth in the country's overarching policy documents."
